MYTH: Constructing a natural gas pipeline will simply lead to its future conversion to an oil pipeline, just like you are doing with Energy East.
FACT: There are no plans to convert this pipeline to carry oil. We have a 20-year agreement with Progress Energy to deliver natural gas to the Pacific NorthWest LNG facility, with options to renew those contracts for many more years.
The Pacific NorthWest LNG project is a long-term dedicated facility that will be built for the sole purpose of exporting liquefied natural gas and will represent an investment of $9 billion to $11 billion for the facility alone. This massive investment is in addition to the billions of dollars that will be invested “upstream” in northeastern B.C. to develop the gas reserves to serve the plant. The level of investment and the design of facilities for natural gas will ensure that these facilities will be utilized solely for natural gas for the foreseeable future.
