MYTH: This project will demand more natural gas drilling and the resultant pollution in order to satisfy the needs of overseas consumers. We’re left with the pollution while they benefit from our product.
FACT: The Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project will help British Columbia and Canada open lucrative new export markets for surplus natural gas by creating a pipeline that connects natural gas from the Montney gas producing region, near Fort St. John, to the Pacific NorthWest LNG export facility, proposed for construction near Prince Rupert, B.C.
Access to new Asian markets, over and above existing domestic gas use, will ensure the continued development of B.C.’s natural gas resources. By connecting existing supplies of natural gas to new markets, the pipeline will help create significant economic benefits for Aboriginal communities, the province and the country. Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel and can help to displace other energy forms, such as coal-fired electricity. Natural Gas is a fuel that is ideally suited as a transition fuel as our society moves towards less carbon intensive energy sources.
