Supporting communities where we build and operate always has been and always will be part of our everyday culture.
Our community investment work in BC is largely driven by needs identified by people who live in the communities we work with.
Over the course of engagement with communities in BC in the last several years, we have heard that communities expect to see real, tangible, local benefits from our projects. Our investment in initiatives which help build strong, sustainable communities is a response to these expectations. We believe it’s the right thing to do, and we’ll continue to support those efforts.
Here are some of the community projects we’re proud to support:
Sustainable Communities Demonstration Project
In 2014, we made a major contribution to building sustainable infrastructure at UNBC with support for a new pipeline connecting the UNBC bio-energy plant with student residences and the future growth area planned for the campus. The Sustainable Communities Demonstration Project will significantly reduce UNBC’s consumption of fossil fuels for heating, and serve as a useful teaching, research, and demonstration platform for rural and remote northern communities.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Sadly, for many children across Canada access to healthy food isn’t always an option. Breakfast Club of Canada is a national non-profit organization that provides funding, equipment, training and support to school breakfast programs across the country. Breakfast Club of Canada ensures that students receive a healthy breakfast before the start of every school day in over 1,300 schools across Canada. Our legacy includes support for early childhood education and literacy, because we know that the next generation of citizens will build and sustain their communities into the future. Our support of Breakfast Club of Canada provides kids with the energy they need to learn, and enables them to become life-long learners. Additional schools across Northern B.C. will receive the breakfast program in their communities.
Natural gas is used heat our homes, schools, hospitals and businesses. It is also used to make crop fertilizer, fabrics, plastics and items we use every day.
